For Women

Welcome here...

Whatever your story and your journey with vaginismus, you can rest assured, you are not the only one. There are thousands of other women out there who are probably silently suffering with vaginismus and hoping to find information, a cure or simply somebody they can talk about their concerns with. You are a lucky one. Here you will find some information, links to support groups and hopefully the answer to many of your unanswered questions and some comfort in the words of other women who have been through this with eyes wide open.

You may find some of the articles challenging, in many ways.. Vaginismus gives a unique chance to reconsider our views on sex, on our bodies, on love and on our partners. Some women will use the opportunity of vaginismus to question what 'normal' is or whether sex deserves such a central role in the first place. The women who together with their partners created and collaborated on this website have decided to try and open a bit more than their vaginas and they are here to say it's worth it.

If you're at a time of your life when you don't feel strong enough to start challenging people or ideas, it's fine, we still hope that you can make use of the many practical pages scattered around the website, such as the guide to having a smooth gynecological visit or the pros and cons of the different treatments for vaginismus. To all of you, good luck on your journey through the wall...

Please Note: This website is particularly designed for virgins or women who had vaginismus all their lives (primary vaginismus) so some articles and opinions may not necessarily feel that relevant for women who were able to have pain-free sex and that then for some reason developed vaginismus (secondary vaginismus).
If you have secondary vaginismus, you may prefer to skip the more theoretical articles and go straight to the dilating guide or other practical sections.

DISCLAIMER: This site is not designed to provide medical advice. All material is gathered from the experience of hundreds of women who experienced vaginismus but it is for information only and is not intended to be a substitute for professional or medical advice, diagnosis, and treatment. Please review the information contained on vaginismus-awareness-network.org carefully and confer with a health care professional specialized in vaginismus, as needed.
